2001 ALB ALL-STAR GAME

For the second straight year, pitching was king in the ALB All-Star Game, which was marred by a mid-game rain delay. The Whipsaw staff only allowed 3 hits, but was bested by the Flitter which gave up just two hits for a 2-0 win.

In the top of the 4th inning, the Whipsaw's Vladmir Guerrero (DAM) and Todd Hundley (BOM) both drove fly balls to the warning track against Kevin Brown (SAT), but both were caught at the wall. In the bottom of the frame, Barry Zito (PIN) gave up a similar out to Edgar Martinez (KNI), before Jim Edmonds (TUA) crushed a solo home run into the right field stands. The next batter, Nomar Garciaparra (JAB), drilled a homer into the left-center field bleachers before Zito was relieved. Those back-to-back jacks proved to be the only scoring in the game. Edmonds and Garciaparra were named co-MVPs. Brown was the winner, with Armando Benitez (SAT) recording the final two outs for the save. Zito was hung with the loss.
