2005 ALB ALL-STAR GAME

When the starting pitchers -- Brad Radke (PAD) for the Whipsaw and Randy Johnson (BOM) for the Flitter -- tossed two scoreless innings apiece to start the 2005 ALB All-Star Game, it set the tone for the night. Pitching dominated this edition of the mid-summer classic.

The Whipsaw club drew blood first, when Corey Koskie (STA) hammered a pitch by A.J. Burnett (OUT) into the right field bleachers with two outs in the top of the third inning. The solo blast gave the Whipsaw a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chris Hammond walked J.D. Drew (TUA). Drew moved to second on an error by 1B Justin Morneau (MOB). With two on and no outs, Khalil Greene (AIR) doubled to deep left center, plating Drew and evening the score at 1-1. Brad Lidge (STO) relieved Hammond, and managed to stop the bleeding.

The game entered extra innings with both club's pitching growing thin. But in the bottom of the tenth, Marcus Giles grounded a single up the middle, and promptly stole second base. Armando Benitez (WAL) struck out Randy Winn (VIL), bringing John Mabry (HAM) to the plate. Mabry grounded a double down the first base line, scoring Giles for a 2-1 Flitter win.

Mabry was named Most Valuable Player after driving in the game-winning run. He finished the Game with two doubles in three at-bats. Billy Wagner (TOL) picked up the win in relief.
